What is baklava?

Baklava is a dessert made of filo dough. It is spread in Greek, Turkish, Persian and other Balkan cuisines.

What is needed for baklava?

Ingredients:

300g walnuts

3 tablespoons of sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Syrup:

150ml of water

50g honey

170g sugar

1 tablespoon lemon juice

chopped pistachios for decoration

Recipe:

1. Chop or grind the nuts until pieces remain. Mix with cinnamon and sugar.

2. The butter should melt. Cool.

3. Cut the dough into shapes and sizes.

4. Grease the mold with melted butter. Spread two sheets of dough. Spread the second sheet with butter. Put another two sheets on top, brush with butter and spread two sheets. Spread 1/3 of the nuts on the sixth sheet. Cover with two more sheets and grease with butter. Put two sheets on top, greased with butter, and two more sheets, smeared with butter. Put half of the remaining nuts and put the two sheets again, lubricating with butter. Place the remaining nuts on the buttered baking tray No. 18, then 2 sheets, brush with butter until 24 or more nuts are obtained and beat as desired. Brush the last sheet with butter.

5. With a sharp knife, cut the dough into cubes, triangles or diamonds.

6. Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes, until golden brown, at 180 ° C. During baking, prepare the syrup. Pour water into the pot. Add sugar and honey. Boil and then cook at medium burner until syrup forms, approx. 10 to 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and add lemon juice. Allow to cool.

7.Remove the baked cake from the oven, wait 5 minutes and pour the syrup. Sprinkle with chopped pistachios.
